BLANTYRE WATER BOARD SCOOPS FIRST POSITION IN 2024 IMPLEMENTATION OF ACCESS TO INFORMATION ACT
Blantyre Water Board (BWB) has today been recognized as the best institution in implementing the Access to Information Act in the year 2024.
The Board was presented with the prestigious trophy during a ceremony held at the Bingu International Convention Centre in Lilongwe on September 27, 2024.
The award, presented by the Malawi Human Rights Commission (MHRC), recognized BWB’s outstanding commitment to ensuring that vital information is readily available to the public, contributing to greater transparency in service delivery and governance.
Blantyre Water Board's Senior Public Relations and Information Officer Mrs. Evelyn Khonje, received and accepted the award on behalf of the Board.
"At Blantyre Water Board, we believe that access to information is key to enhancing public service delivery, and it is a fundamental right of every Malawian. We remain committed to providing timely and accurate information to the public", Khonje said.
Since the enactment of the ATI Act, Blantyre Water Board has implemented several initiatives to ensure compliance and improve information dissemination. These include setting up dedicated communication channels such as Customer Care line, Call Centre, Service Centres, publishing the ATI Act and guidelines on website, social media platforms and customer WhatsApp groups.
The Board has also conducted public awareness campaigns to educate customers and disseminate key information.
Acknowledging this recognition, the Chief Executive Officer for Blantyre Water Board Dr. Robert Hanjahanja said "the recognition is not just for Blantyre Water Board, but for all staff and customers who have worked together to enhance openness and transparency in BWB operations."
The award places Blantyre Water Board among the top government institutions excelling in the implementation of the ATI Act.
