Prepaid Water Meters

The Board is now in the third phase of installing prepaid meters to its customers. The Board took delivery of 20,000 prepaid meters in Apri 2019 to be installed during the third phase of the project. So far, a total of 1,600 prepaid water meters have been installed and installation is still going on.

The areas that will benefit from these meters are Zingwangwa Newlines and Manja, Ndirande Newlines, Chilomoni Fargo, Gulliver, Ngumbe, Chapima Heights, Blantyre Central, Chimwankhunda, Makata Industrial Area, Mpingwe, Maone, South Lunzu, Mpempa, Chiwembe, Limbe Central, BCA Hills, Chigumula, Mudi BWB Staff compound and Chileka BWB staff compound.

To ensure customers don’t travel long distances to purchase prepaid water tokens, the Board has opened several paypoints where customers can purchase the water tokens. In addition, customers can also purchase water tokens on TNM Mpamba by dialing *444# as well as through the following mobile banking service providers:-

Prepaid Token purchase

The Board has opened several vending stations for prepaid water units to enable them buy prepaid water token any time of the day and at their convenience. Customers can therefore buy water tokens at the following places:

Soche Customer Service Centre at Soche East Mall at Kudya
Limbe Customer Service Centre at ex-Limbe Leaf Offices, along Partridge Avenue
Blantyre Customer Service Centre in Everest House, Blantyre
Bangwe Customer Service Centre in Bangwe Post Office, along Midima Road

Notes on Prepaid Meter Tariffs

The water tariff for prepaid water is the same as that for the post-paid system. The meter rental however is different because the cost of the prepaid meter is higher than that of the post-paid meters.
Customers on prepaid metering are not charged meter reading fee.

Purchase of Water Tokens on TNM Mpamba

Customers can also buy water tokens through TNM Mpamba by dialing *444#. Customers with TNM numbers need to register for the service and load money in their cellphones to enable them pay for the generation of a water token

Customers are required to input their 13-digit Meter Number in order to generate a token. Please Note that purchase of Prepaid Water Tokens using Mobile Payment Service is currently available on TNM Mpamba Only
