BWB in capacity building for records management in compliance with the Access to Information Act


The Malawi Government through the Department of National Records and Archives are from today 29th July 2024 conducting a week-long training for public officers and the private sector on the importance of good records management policies to ensure adherence to various legislative and regulatory requirements including the Access to Information Act.

The Malawi Government through the Department of National Records and Archives are from today 29th July 2024 conducting a week-long training for public officers and the private sector on the importance of good records management policies to ensure adherence to various legislative and regulatory requirements including the Access to Information Act. Speaking during the opening ceremony, the Principal Secretary in the Ministry of Local Government, Culture and Unity Madam Chrissy Chiumia said technology plays a pivotal role in records management. “Digital records and electronic document management systems provide unprecedented opportunities to improve efficiency in our organizations” she said. The workshop is expected to address the challenges that the digital age has brought in as far as retaining digital records is concerned, and to be in line with the legislative and regulatory requirements of the Access to Information Act, the PPDA Act, the Public Finance Management Act and the Electronic Transactions and Cyber Security Act among others. Blantyre Water Board is participating at this training workshop to enhance accountability and adherence to legislative requirements and also ensure BWB information is organized, easily accessible and up-to-date for more efficient operations. The workshop is being attended by over 60 participants from the public and private sectors and is being held at Linde Hotel in Mponela up to Friday, the 2nd of August 2024.
